Workflow example

Find a screen recording by what it shows

Turn a generic recording name into a searchable description. Zush renames the file in its current folder; Zush also offers optional AI folder sorting (beta).

Use the Screen recording topics template

Open Templates in Zush, create a template named Screen recording topics, and use these instructions in its custom prompt. Save it, generate names for a small batch, and review before applying.

Name each video using a short description of the visible task or scene. Use lowercase words separated by hyphens. Use sampled frames and available subtitles; do not invent details that are not present. Avoid generic words such as video, recording, and final. Keep the original file extension.

Sampled frames can miss brief events. Subtitles may be absent. Review the suggested topic before applying names, especially for long recordings.

How it works

Find the right clip without opening every export

Use visible content to name screen recordings, camera clips, and b-roll. Keep a copy of linked editing projects before changing source filenames.

  1. Add a few representative clips

Start with supported MP4 or MOV files. Include a screen recording and a camera clip to check both kinds of material.

  2. Generate names from sampled context

Zush uses sampled frames and available subtitle context. Keep matching SRT or VTT files nearby when you have them.

  3. Check the description and apply

Make sure the suggested subject matches the clip. Review names before applying and use rename history to undo a batch if needed.

Illustrative naming pattern for a software demo. A sampled frame is context, not a transcript of the entire video.

A short scene can be missed between sampled frames. Names do not guarantee full-video understanding. Renaming source media can break links in editing projects; verify or relink those projects after a rename.

Cloud AI

Goes through our relay to a commercial AI provider, under their standard API terms. The relay exists so the API key can’t be pulled out of the app.

Bring Your Own Key

Connect your own API key from Gemini, OpenRouter, OpenAI, or Claude for cloud renames; FREE includes 50 across all modes and PRO is unlimited. Keys are stored locally in secure platform storage.

Private Local AI Options

Keep supported analysis on your device with LM Studio or Ollama. Each local mode works offline after setup.

Watch one or multiple folders — including iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive folders. Zush runs in the background and processes new files automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which video formats does Zush support?

Zush supports common desktop video formats including MP4, MOV, M4V, MPEG, MPG, 3GP, DV, TS, MTS, M2TS, and VOB. It analyzes sampled frames and can use nearby SRT or VTT subtitle context when available.

Does Zush upload the whole video file?

No. Zush prepares compact analysis context such as sampled frames, subtitles, and file metadata instead of sending the original full video file as part of normal cloud processing.

Can Zush rename screen recordings?

Yes. Screen recordings are a strong fit because the visible UI, charts, documents, or subtitles often reveal what the clip is about.

Can I batch rename videos with photos and documents?

Yes. Zush can process mixed batches across supported images, audio, videos, PDFs, Office documents, text files, spreadsheets, subtitles, and more.

Can Zush rename audio-only files too?

Yes. Zush supports MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC, OGG, WebM, and MPGA audio files using metadata, recognition, and transcript context when available.
